What Claude Opus 5.5 is for
Anthropic says Claude Opus 5.5 is designed to dependably run intricate workflows across many tools, direct subagents, and generate usable spreadsheets, slides, and documents. It can be accessed by Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, through the Claude Platform, and via Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry. Fast mode, which runs up to 2.5 times quicker, is offered in Claude Code and through the Claude Platform, and US-restricted inference carries a charge of 1.1 times the standard rate for both incoming and outgoing tokens.
What Anthropic says it does well
- Reliably orchestrates complex multi-tool tasks, plans deliberately, coordinates subagents, and uses memory to learn across sessions
- Follows instructions precisely and produces professional-grade spreadsheets, slides, and docs
- Communicates more clearly, leading with what matters and avoiding jargon
Where to use it
- Claude for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users (Claude apps)
- Claude Platform natively, and in Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry (API)
- Fast mode in Claude Code and on the Claude Platform, up to 2.5x faster speed
- US-only inference for workloads that need to run in the US, at 1.1x pricing
Limits Anthropic mentions
- Launches with stricter safeguards in cybersecurity, biology, and anti-distillation, which the maker says prevent misuse
- As of September 22, 2026: Opus 5.5 will soon be available in Kiro, so it is not yet available there
