What happened
On September 24, 2026, Google DeepMind introduced Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar, which brings near real-time visual presence to its native live dialogue models. At launch it was available in Gemini Enterprise, and custom avatar creation was limited to enterprise allowlisting.
Why it matters
Enterprises using Gemini Enterprise can offer more interactive virtual experiences, with lip-syncing, natural expressions, turn-taking, background tool calls, and support for 97 languages. Organizations can choose from preset avatars or customize their own.
