What the Excel MCP server does
An assistant can create, describe, import and export workbooks, read and write cell ranges, sort, find and replace cells, and add charts, sparklines and pivot tables. It can also trace formulas, run Goal Seek to change an input until a formula reaches a chosen value, and read VBA macros, though writing VBA modules is only available when the server is started with --allow-vba-write. It can run locally over stdio using uvx excel-mcp-server stdio, or as a streamable-http server that clients connect to at http://127.0.0.1:8017/mcp.
