What the Square MCP server does

Assistants can call get_service_info to find the methods a Square service offers, and make_api_request to carry out calls against Square. Square runs a hosted remote endpoint at https://mcp.squareup.com/mcp that authenticates through OAuth, letting you log in with your Square account. You can also start a local instance via npx on your own computer, supplying your own access token.

Tools it gives your assistant

2 tools or toolsets, as its documentation lists them.

What you need

In the square documentation's own words:

  • “The remote server is recommended: it uses OAuth, so you sign in with your Square account”
  • “Get up and running with the local server using npx. This runs the server on your own machine with your own access token”
  • “Replace YOUR_SQUARE_ACCESS_TOKEN with your actual Square access token”

Commands and settings change between versions. Check the official instructions before you install.
