What happened
On October 7, 2026, Google unveiled Playground, an experimental platform where people can make, play, and share custom games. It opened that day to U.S. users aged 18 and older via playground.google, and access to creation tools will be staged according to a Google AI subscription tier.
Why it matters
Because it runs in a browser, Playground lets people play its games on either a phone or a laptop. Creators can keep their games private, send them out via link, or publish them to the Playground Explore gallery. Games may feature in-game leaderboards and, in certain genres, multiplayer gameplay.
