What the Jira MCP server does

Hosted in the cloud, this bridge lets AI tools read, search, and change data in Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, Bitbucket, Compass, and Loom. Each product has read, write, and search tools, but the tools that delete or manage Jira stay off until an administrator switches them on. Users can connect to the remote endpoint at https://mcp.atlassian.com/v2/mcp, or install locally by running claude mcp add with the HTTP transport and then authenticating within a session. Supported clients include ChatGPT, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, and Copilot. The hosted server uses OAuth or an API key, while Jira Service Management accepts only API tokens, which an organization admin must allow. Bitbucket tools require a workspace linked to an organization, Loom tools require a workspace linked to an Atlassian site, the hosted server needs an Atlassian Cloud site with at least one supported product, and the local proxy needs Node.js v18 or newer.
